Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- In a large saute pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the potato cubes and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Saute stirring frequently, for 5 minutes. Turn the heat up to high, add the water, stir, and cover the pan with a lid. Steam the potatoes until the water evaporates, about 3 or 4 more minutes. (Every 1 to 2 minutes, open the lid long enough to stir the potatoes so they don't stick.) Lower the heat to medium, and saute another 1 to 2 minutes until all traces of water are gone. Toss in the butter and stir to coat the potatoes. Spread the potatoes out on a baking sheet. Bake in the oven until the potatoes are crisp and browned to your liking, about 15 to 25 minutes depending on how dark you want them. Transfer the potatoes to a serving bowl and serve.

Tips for Perfect Crispy Potatoes:
- Choose the Right Potatoes: Select firm, waxy potatoes like Yukon Gold, Red Bliss, or New Potatoes. These varieties hold their shape well and crisp up nicely.
- Cut Potatoes Evenly: Cut potatoes into uniform-sized pieces to ensure even cooking. Smaller pieces will crisp up faster, while larger ones may remain undercooked.
- Soak Potatoes: Soaking potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes removes excess starch, resulting in crispier potatoes. After soaking, pat them dry thoroughly.
- Use the Right Amount of Oil: Don't overcrowd the pan; otherwise, the potatoes will steam instead of fry. Use a generous amount of oil to coat the potatoes evenly.
- Season Generously: Season the potatoes with salt, pepper, and any desired herbs or spices before cooking. This will enhance the flavor and make them more appetizing.
- Cook Over Medium-High Heat: Start by cooking the potatoes over medium-high heat to sear them and create a crispy crust. Then, reduce the heat to medium-low and continue cooking until they are tender inside.
- Flip Regularly: Flip the potatoes occasionally during cooking to ensure even browning and crispiness on all sides.
- Drain Excess Oil: After cooking, drain the potatoes on paper towels to remove excess oil and achieve a crispier texture.
Conclusion:
Achieving perfectly crispy potatoes requires a combination of proper potato selection, precise cutting, and careful cooking techniques. By following these tips, you can create delicious and irresistibly crispy potatoes that will elevate any meal.
