Time 35m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

14 ounces petite cut tomatoes
14 ounces tomato sauce
14 ounces water
3 fresh jalapeno peppers
1 large yellow onion
1/4 cup jalapeno juice (from bottled jalapenos) or 1/4 cup white vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon chili powder

Steps:

  • Bring all ingredients to a boil in a pot.
  • Lower heat and simmer for about 30 minutes or until it is the desired thickness.
  • (Salsa thickens when it cools.).
  • Remove from heat and cool in refrigerator.
  • (Suggestion: add 1/3 can of sweet yellow corn during cooking, it makes a great addition).

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, flavorful tomatoes: The quality of your tomatoes will greatly impact the taste of your sauce. Look for tomatoes that are deep red and free of blemishes.
  • Roast your tomatoes before using them: Roasting tomatoes intensifies their flavor and gives them a slightly smoky taste. To roast tomatoes, simply toss them with olive oil and salt, and then roast them in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-45 minutes, or until they are slightly charred and softened.
  • Use a variety of peppers: For a more complex flavor, use a variety of peppers in your sauce, such as jalapeƱos, serranos, and habaneros. Just be sure to adjust the amount of peppers you use depending on how spicy you want your sauce to be.
  • Add some sweetness: To balance out the heat of the peppers, add some sweetness to your sauce with ingredients like honey, agave nectar, or brown sugar.
  • Simmer your sauce for a while: The longer you simmer your sauce, the more time the flavors will have to develop. For a richer, more flavorful sauce, simmer it for at least 30 minutes, or even longer if you have the time.

Conclusion:

With so many different recipes to choose from, you're sure to find a perfect pace picante sauce that suits your taste. Whether you like it mild, medium, or hot, there's a recipe out there for you. So grab some fresh tomatoes, peppers, and spices, and get cooking!
