Philly Cheese Steak Dip image

This easy-to-make hot dip would make a handsome addition to your snack table for the Big Game. Like all great party foods, it's wonderful hot, warm, room temp, and, I've heard from a reliable source, even delicious cold. Serve alongside sliced baguette. Keep it hot and fresh for guests by baking it in 2 batches, or feel free to do this all at once in a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Time 1h23m

Yield 24

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 pound beef top sirloin steaks
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 yellow onion, diced
1 tablespoon butter
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
½ cup pepperoncini peppers
7 pickled red peppers (such as Peppadew®)
3 jalapeno peppers
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
½ pound provolone cheese
½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 pinch cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Slice steak into thick pieces. Season generously on both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Heat olive oil in a pan over high heat until smoking. Add steak slices and sear until bottoms are browned, 3 to 4 minutes. Flip over and reduce heat to medium. Cook until juices appear on the tops, 3 to 4 minutes more. Transfer to a bowl to cool.
  • Add diced onion, a big pinch of salt, and butter to the meat juices in the pan. Cook and stir over medium heat, scraping up the browned bits, until onions start to soften, 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Dice up the red bell pepper, green bell pepper, pepperoncini, pickled red peppers, and jalapenos until you have 1 1/2 to 2 cups. Add to the onions; cook and stir until starting to soften, about 5 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Chop steak into small pieces. Place back into the bowl with the accumulated meat juices. Add the onion-pepper mixture and cream cheese. Grate in the provolone cheese, saving a little for the top. Drizzle in Worcestershire sauce and sprinkle in cayenne pepper. Mix dip thoroughly.
  • Transfer 1/2 of the dip into a small baking dish. Smooth the top with a fork. Place baking dish on top of a sheet pan. Sprinkle the remaining provolone cheese on top. Save the other 1/2 to bake fresh for your guests.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until dip is bubbling and heated through, 20 to 25 minutes. Broil until top is browned, about 1 minute more. Repeat with the second batch of dip.

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK SANDWICH

Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich image

DELICIOUS! This is by far a wonderful sandwich when you are craving onions, melting cheese and steak! Very EASY preparation. Provolone cheese is the only kind to use in making this sandwich. I have used thinly sliced ribeye steak with success, but have listed deli roast beef in this recipe. We prefer mayonnaise and mustard as condiments to this sandwich which enhance the flavor. Note: In my area we have a restaurant named J. Michael's Philly Deli. This recipe is similar to his version and it's darn good!

Provided by Seasoned Cook

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 15m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 ounces deli roast beef (6 thin slices)
4 slices provolone cheese
1 onion, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 hoagie rolls
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Split hoagie roll and spread with butter. Lightly toast in skillet and remove.
  • Saute onions in olive oil.
  • Place roast beef slices on one side of roll and top with two slices of provolone cheese per sandwich. Melt cheese by broiling for approximately 1 minute.
  • Add sauteed onions on top of melted cheese and top sandwich with other half of hoagie roll. (If using condiments, add before placing split roll on top.).

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK

Philly Cheese Steak image

Wish you were here in Philadelphia, eating a cheese steak. No doubt about it, cheese steak is the quintessential Philly food. Too bad it can pack more than 60 grams of fat. To keep the greasy drippings from staining shirts, Philadelphians have learned the "Philly lean," a way of bending forward to the cheese steak rather than bringing it to the mouth. Self's "Philly lean" features a trimmer cut of meat, less cheese and more peppers so it has about half the calories and a third of the fat of the original - and provides 60 percent of your daily vitamin C needs.

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK PIZZA

Philly Cheese Steak Pizza image

My family has always liked the Philly Cheese Steak Pizza from Domino's. I decided that it has a really simple concept, so I got to work one evening and decided to give it a try. Although I cut corners on the pizza dough, my family said that is was by far the best Pizza that they had ever had, hands down. Don't be afraid to try this recipe, you will love it. I had a pretty good idea of what was on the pizza to begin with, so the rest was easy. I chose deli roast beef becase it is a better quality than frozen and formed steak patties. Good Luck!

EMERIL'S PHILLY CHEESE STEAK SANDWICH

Emeril's Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich image

I'm not claiming this is an authentic Philly Cheese Steak, I chose this to simulate my favorite cheese steak sub at Sapore di Mare. Elsewhere (and not elsewhere on Recipezaar.com) people have been puzzled why the oven would need to be preheated to 200F; why, it is only to warm up the sandwich rolls! Purists will use only Cheese Whiz, but I will always use Provolone. I love an accent of "hots" on my sub, preferably Sun of Italy "Hot Chopped Peppers"; sliced pepperoncini or banana peppers also work well. I favor sweet onions, so I added them as an option to Emeril's recipe. Also, a half and half mixture of olive oil and butter is heavenly; but if using a nonstick pan, no fat is really needed. To slice the rib-eye, pound it thin, roll it tightly and wrap in wax paper, freeze 10 minutes, then slice thinly. Personally, I would never dream of using ketchup on this sandwich, although I might try a bit of marinara sauce to make this an Italian cheese steak sandwich. Although most people would threaten me if I gave them half a sandwich, I believe that is the correct size for 1 nutritional serving.

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 21m

Yield 2 sandwiches, 2-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 lb rib eye steak (very very thinly shaved or sliced)
1/3 lb white processed cheese, thinly sliced or 4 ounces Cheese Whiz, melted
catsup (optional)
pepperoncini pepper, accompaniment

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F. Then warm the sliced rolls or buns in the oven while cooking the meat and vegetables.
  • Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. When hot add the oil, onions and bell peppers, and cook, stirring, until caramelized, about 6 minutes. Add the garlic, salt, and pepper, and cook, stirring, for 30 seconds. Push off to 1 side of the griddle.
  • Add the meat to the hot pan and cook, stirring and breaking up with the back of 2 metal spatulas, until almost no longer pink, about 2 minutes. Mix in the sauteed vegetables. Top with cheese slices and melt. PHILLY CHEESE STEAK PIZZA RECIPE - (5/5)

Philly Cheese Steak Pizza Recipe - (5/5) image

Provided by MJH

Number Of Ingredients 16

SAUCE:
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
½ cup cold milk
1-3 cloves garlic, pressed
1/8 teaspoon salt
a pinch of black pepper AND nutmeg
¼ cup parmesan cheese
PIZZA:
½ recipe homemade pizza dough (store bought works too)
6 ounces of cooked ribeye, skirt,or flank steak, or roast beef (see notes for cooking instructions)
½ green bell pepper, sliced
3-5 mushrooms sliced
½ sweet onion, thinly sliced
3 teaspoons oil (optional)
1 ¼ cup shredded cheese (such as mozzarella or provolone)

Steps:

  • Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 475ºF. Roll the dough out into a 12 inch circle. Create a lip or rim by thickening the dough around the crust portion. This keeps the sauce in instead of running over the sides. Let dough rest for 15-20 minutes while you prepare the sauce. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and let cook for 1 minute or until it smells like baked pie dough. Slowly stream in the cold milk while you whisk. Add the pressed garlic and allow the sauce to come to a gentle simmer. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Remove the sauce from the stove; whisk in the parmesan cheese. Allow the sauce to cool for 5-10 minutes, you can prep your veggies in that time. The veggies can be used raw on the pizza if you prefer. I like to heat a skillet with a teaspoon of oil and cook each onions, peppers, and mushrooms for just a couple minutes separately. You'll use a total of 3 teaspoons of oil to do this. I sometimes let the onions go low and slow for a little longer to get them to sweeten up a bit more, however this is totally optional. Top the dough with sauce, cooked steak, veggies, and shredded cheese. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is lightly browned and the cheese is bubbling and golden. For the last minute of baking, you can turn it to the broiler setting just to get everything extra bubbly if you'd like. Slice pizza and serve! NOTES: If you don't have leftover cooked steak, here's how to make it: Freeze the steak for 20-30 minutes so it's easier to slice. Slice into very thin slices. Heat a skillet with 2 teaspoons of oil and season the steak with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook the meat for a total of 1-2 minutes flipping it halfway in between so that it cooks evenly. Remove to a plate and let cool.

HEARTLAND PHILLY CHEESE STEAK AND POTATO BASH #5FIX

Heartland Philly Cheese Steak and Potato Bash #5FIX image

5-Ingredient Fix Contest Entry. I lkie this recipe because it reminds me of hash that I've come to love, especially for breakfast. And since I first heard of the Philly steak sandwich, which I have never tasted the authentic Philly, I learned how to make my version of the Philly a few years ago. Plus I'm a meat and potatoes and cheese lover, so this dish is perfect for me!

Categories     Potato

Time 40m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 lbs rib eye steaks, sliced very thin
1 (16 ounce) package Simply Potatoes® Shredded Hash Browns, prepared per package directions
1 small red bell pepper, coarsely chopped
1 small onion, coarsely chopped
1 (8 ounce) jar Cheez Whiz

Steps:

  • Remove steaks from freezer and let thaw for at least an hour. The meat will be a lot easier to cut thin if partially frozen. To prepare steak, using a very sharp knife, cut steak at an angle into thin slices and then chop again into smaller pieces, sort of like stir-fry but smaller. Set aside for later use.
  • Rinse red bell pepper, and cut into a coarse dice. Peel onion and chop into a coarse dice. Set aside.
  • Prepare hash browns according to package directions, except break hash browns up rather than make into a patty. You want them to be nice and brown. When hash browns are done, remove from skillet and set aside.
  • Add a tad bit of oil to the same non-stick skillet used to cook the potatoes. Sauté the chopped red pepper and onion together for 2-3 minutes or until the onion starts to caramelize. Add the chopped steak to skillet and continue to stir-fry until done, about 4-5 minute more. Return hash browns to skillet with meat, onions, and peppers and toss together over low heat until well incorporated.
  • Remove lid from Cheez Whiz jar and heat in microwave for 45 seconds. Pour about half of the Cheese Whiz over steak and potatoes. Serve immediately.
  • Recipe makes 4 - 6 servings.

Tips:

  • Choose the right bread: A good Philly cheesesteak sandwich starts with a sturdy bread that can hold up to the fillings. A traditional hoagie roll is a good choice, but you can also use Italian bread, French bread, or even a soft pretzel roll.
  • Use thinly sliced steak: The steak for a Philly cheesesteak should be thinly sliced, so that it cooks quickly and evenly. You can use any type of steak you like, but ribeye or top sirloin are good choices.
  • Cook the steak properly: The steak for a Philly cheesesteak should be cooked quickly over high heat, so that it is still juicy and flavorful. You can cook the steak in a skillet or on a griddle.
  • Use plenty of cheese: A Philly cheesesteak is all about the cheese, so don't be shy about using plenty of it. Cheez Whiz is the traditional cheese for a Philly cheesesteak, but you can also use provolone, American cheese, or any other type of cheese that you like.
  • Add your favorite toppings: In addition to steak and cheese, you can add any other toppings you like to your Philly cheesesteak. Popular toppings include onions, peppers, mushrooms, and ketchup.

Conclusion:

The Philly cheesesteak is a classic American sandwich that is loved by people all over the world. It is a simple sandwich to make, but there are a few tips and tricks that you can follow to make sure that your Philly cheesesteak is the best it can be. With the right ingredients and a little bit of effort, you can easily make a delicious Philly cheesesteak at home.
