Time 15m

Yield 3 Cups

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (14 ounce) can pineapple chunks, with no sugar added juice
6 garlic cloves, chopped
1 inch ginger, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons mirin
3 dashes sesame oil
1 teaspoon crushed red chili pepper (probably closer to 1 1/2)
1/2 cup brown sugar

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients in a heavy sauce pan.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • While simmering use the immersion blender to blend. It thickens up without any thickening agent.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh pineapple: Fresh pineapple adds a vibrant flavor and texture to the sauce. If fresh pineapple is not available, you can use canned pineapple chunks, but be sure to drain them well before using.
  • Use a food processor or blender: A food processor or blender makes it easy to puree the pineapple and other ingredients until smooth. If you don't have a food processor or blender, you can grate the pineapple and chop the other ingredients finely.
  • Adjust the sweetness and spiciness to your taste: The amount of brown sugar and red pepper flakes you add to the sauce can be adjusted to your liking. If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add more brown sugar. If you prefer a spicier sauce, add more red pepper flakes.
  • Use the sauce as a marinade or dipping sauce: Pineapple teriyaki sauce can be used as a marinade for chicken, fish, or tofu. It can also be used as a dipping sauce for spring rolls, egg rolls, or other appetizers.
  • Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks: Pineapple teriyaki sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. It can also be frozen for up to 3 months.

Conclusion:

Pineapple teriyaki sauce is a versatile and delicious sauce that can be used in a variety of dishes. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. Whether you use it as a marinade, dipping sauce, or cooking sauce, pineapple teriyaki sauce is sure to please everyone at your table.
