HONEY PORK ORIENTAL

This is my mom's recipe. Not sure exactly where she got it from, but it has been a family favorite for years. The original recipe is served over cooked rice, but my dad doesn't like rice, so he eats it over cooked egg noodles. It's great both ways. This is a great recipe that uses ingredients that you usually have sitting around in the cupboard.

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 lb pork shoulder steaks
2 Tbsp oil
1 envelope brown gravy mix
3/4 c water
1/4 c honey
3 Tbsp soy sauce
2 Tbsp wine vinegar
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp garlic salt
4 carrots, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, cut into wedges
1 green pepper, cut into strips

Steps:

  • 1. Cut pork into 1" pieces. In small bowl, combine gravy mix, water, honey, soy sauce, vinegar, ginger, and garlic salt. Set aside. Brown pork in oil in wok or large skillet. Add gravy mixture to pork; cover. Lower heat; cook 20 minutes. Add carrots; cook 10 minutes. Add onion & green pepper; cook 5 to 10 minutes more.

Tips for Cooking Pork Honey Oriental:

  • Choose the right cut of pork. Pork shoulder is a good choice because it is a fatty cut that will stay moist during cooking. You can also use pork loin, but it will be leaner and may dry out more easily.
  • Marinate the pork. Marinating the pork in a mixture of soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger will help to flavor it and make it more tender. You can marinate the pork for as little as 30 minutes or for up to overnight.
  • Cook the pork over medium heat. This will help to prevent the pork from burning and will allow it to cook evenly. You can cook the pork in a skillet, in a slow cooker, or in the oven.
  • Add vegetables to the dish. Vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers can be added to the dish during the last few minutes of cooking. This will add color and flavor to the dish.
  • Serve the pork honey oriental with rice or noodles. Rice or noodles are a good way to soak up the sauce from the pork. You can also serve the pork with a side of steamed vegetables.

Conclusion:

Pork honey oriental is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. By following these tips, you can make a pork honey oriental dish that is sure to please your family and friends.
