This is a very old Southern recipe. It's a very sweet, rich pie which cannot be described as anything but marvelous. This is not my personal recipe but was passed to me by my grandmother and from her grandmother and so on and so forth.

Tips:

  • Use fresh pumpkin puree: Fresh pumpkin puree will give your chess pie a richer flavor than canned puree.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the pie tough.
  • Bake the pie until the center is just set: The pie is done baking when the center is just set. If you overbake the pie, it will be dry and crumbly.
  • Let the pie cool completely before serving: This will allow the pie to set properly and develop its full flavor.

Conclusion:

Pumpkin chess pie is a classic fall dessert that is easy to make and always a hit with guests. With its creamy, custardy filling and flaky crust, it's the perfect way to end a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal.
