PUMPKIN DESSERT SQUARES WITH SHORTBREAD CRUST

Pumpkin Dessert Squares With Shortbread Crust image

This dessert has extreme pumpkin flavor, with a crust that is so buttery, flakey and light, if you prefer a less sweeter filling just add in 3/4 cup sugar --- the crust must be mixed on the food processor or it will not have the same texture.

PUMPKIN DESSERT SQUARES

Every year we make a trip to the US to shop and one of my favourite places to shop is the Williams-Sonoma store. This year they were serving samples of this made with their own Pecan Pumpkin Butter and giving away the recipe. Since I can't buy the pumpkin butter here I adapted the recipe to use a butter recipe already on Zaar. Absolutely delicious!

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: As with any baking recipe, it's important to measure and prepare all of your ingredients before you start. This will help ensure that you have everything you need and that you don't forget any steps.
  • Use a Food Processor: If you have a food processor, it can be used to make quick work of the crust. Simply add the ingredients to the food processor and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Chill the Dough: Before baking, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes. This will help prevent the crust from spreading too much in the oven.
  • Don't Overmix the Batter: When mixing the batter, be careful not to overmix it. Overmixing can result in a tough, dense cake.
  • Bake Until a Toothpick Inserted into the Center Comes Out Clean: This is the best way to ensure that the cake is fully baked.
  • Let the Cake Cool Completely Before Frosting: This will help prevent the frosting from melting.
  • Use a Variety of Toppings: There are endless possibilities when it comes to topping these squares. Some popular options include chopped nuts, powdered sugar, or a drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce.

Conclusion:

Pumpkin dessert squares are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. They are moist, flavorful, and have a perfect combination of pumpkin and spices.
