Tips:

  • Choose the right gelatin: For firm gumdrops, use powdered gelatin. For softer gumdrops, use sheet gelatin.
  • Bloom the gelatin properly: This means sprinkling the gelatin over cold water and letting it sit for a few minutes until it softens. This helps ensure that the gelatin dissolves evenly and prevents it from clumping.
  • Use fresh fruit juice or extract: This will give your gumdrops a more intense flavor. If you're using extract, be sure to add it at the end of the cooking process so that the flavor doesn't cook off.
  • Don't overcook the gumdrops: The mixture should be cooked over medium heat until it reaches 240°F (115°C). If you overcook the mixture, the gumdrops will be tough and chewy.
  • Let the gumdrops cool completely before cutting them: This will help prevent them from sticking to the knife.
  • Store the gumdrops in an airtight container at room temperature: They will keep for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Gumdrops are a delicious and easy-to-make candy that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a variety of flavors and colors to choose from, there's sure to be a gumdrop that everyone will love. So next time you're looking for a sweet treat, give gumdrops a try!
