Tips:

  • Choose a high-quality ham: The ham is the star of this soup, so it's important to choose a good one. Look for a ham that is fully cooked and has a smoky flavor.
  • Use a variety of beans: This recipe calls for three types of beans: navy beans, great northern beans, and kidney beans. You can use any type of beans you like, but using a variety will give the soup a more complex flavor.
  • Don't overcook the beans: Beans can easily become mushy if they are overcooked. Simmer them for just until they are tender, about 30 minutes.
  • Add vegetables to boost nutrition: This soup is a great way to get some extra vegetables into your diet. Add any vegetables you like, such as carrots, celery, onions, or bell peppers.
  • Season to taste: The soup should be flavorful, but not too salty. Season it to taste with salt, pepper, and other spices.

Conclusion:

This ham and bean soup is a hearty, flavorful, and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a cold winter day. It's also a great way to use up leftover ham. Serve it with a side of cornbread or crusty bread for a complete meal.
