GINGERBREAD

Gingerbread image

My grandmother first used this recipe for gingerbread over 100 years ago. I remember that the kitchen smelled like heaven when Grandmother baked her gingerbread. The only thing better was when she took it out of the oven and served it with a generous topping of fresh whipped cream! -Ellouise Halstead, Union Grove, Wisconsin

Tips:

  • Use fresh ginger: Fresh ginger has a more intense flavor than ground ginger, and it will give your gingerbread a more authentic taste.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make the gingerbread tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough before baking: Chilling the dough will make it easier to roll out and will also help the gingerbread hold its shape in the oven.
  • Bake the gingerbread at a low temperature: Baking the gingerbread at a low temperature will help it to cook evenly and prevent it from burning.
  • Decorate the gingerbread before it cools completely: The gingerbread will be easier to decorate if it is still warm. However, don't wait too long to decorate it, or the icing will harden.

Conclusion:

Gingerbread is a delicious and festive treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make your own gingerbread at home. Just be sure to follow the tips above to ensure that your gingerbread turns out perfectly.
