Tips:

  • Use fresh or frozen rhubarb for the best flavor. Fresh rhubarb is in season from April to June, but you can find frozen rhubarb in most grocery stores year-round.
  • Choose ripe berries for a sweeter crisp. Any type of berry can be used in this recipe, but some of our favorites include strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.
  • Don't overmix the topping. You want the topping to be crumbly, not doughy. Overmixing will make the topping tough.
  • Bake the crisp until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. This usually takes about 30-35 minutes.
  • Let the crisp cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will allow the filling to set and the flavors to meld.
  • Serve the crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. This is the perfect way to enjoy this classic summer dessert.
