HOMEMADE CHEX® PARTY MIX

Homemade Chex® Party Mix image

This homemade snack mix recipe my mom has had since it originated in the 1940s. This was always a holiday favorite at our house. So much better than the newer versions with a richer flavor with the extra butter. This is a very hard-to-find recipe so I thought I'd share. Great to put in tins and give away. I always quadruple the recipe and store extra in freezer. Store in an airtight container or large zip-top bags.

TREVOR'S CHEX PARTY MIX

Trevor's Chex Party Mix image

We worked years to perfect the seasonings as most mixes were too salty for our taste. We laugh everytime we make it as the dogs go crazy. They know I have mixing issues (it goes all over), so it's like Pavlovs dogs every 15 minutes while it's cooking! Everyone goes racing into the kitchen! YIKES!!

Tips:

  • Use fresh herbs for the best flavor. If you don't have fresh herbs, you can use dried herbs, but use half the amount.
  • Be sure to toast the nuts before adding them to the mix. This will help bring out their flavor and make them more crunchy.
  • If you don't have a baking sheet, you can use a large skillet to toast the nuts.
  • Be careful not to overcook the mix. The cereal should be crispy, but not burnt.
  • Let the mix cool completely before storing it. This will help prevent the cereal from getting soggy.
  • Store the mix in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. It will keep for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Rosemary and thyme cocktail Chex party mix is a delicious and easy-to-make snack that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up leftover cereal and herbs, and it is also a fun and festive treat to share with friends and family.
