RUM AND SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE

Rum and Sweet Potato Casserole image

This is a simple recipe for sweet potato casserole. But it is also the best I have tasted, enriched with eggs, milk, and rum, and topped with a crunchy pecan streusel. It is a standard at all holiday dinners in my family. The amount of rum can be varied according to taste (the casserole is also good without it.)

Tips:

  • Use fresh sweet potatoes: Fresh sweet potatoes have a more vibrant flavor and texture than store-bought, pre-cooked sweet potatoes.
  • Bake the sweet potatoes until they are tender: The sweet potatoes should be soft enough to easily pierce with a fork.
  • Use a food processor or blender to puree the sweet potatoes: This will help to create a smooth and creamy casserole.
  • Add spices and flavorings to the sweet potato puree: Common spices and flavorings include cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, and vanilla extract.
  • Use a combination of sugars: A combination of brown sugar and granulated sugar will give the casserole a rich and complex flavor.
  • Add a crunchy topping to the casserole: A crunchy topping, such as a streusel topping or a pecan topping, will add texture and flavor to the casserole.
  • Bake the casserole until the topping is golden brown: The casserole is done baking when the topping is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly around the edges.

Conclusion:

This rum and sweet potato casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. The sweet potatoes are creamy and flavorful, the rum sauce is rich and decadent, and the crunchy topping adds a touch of texture and sweetness.
