Tips:

  • Use a variety of sausages. This will add flavor and texture to the hotdish. You can use bratwurst, Italian sausage, kielbasa, or any other type of sausage you like.
  • Don't overcook the cabbage. You want it to be tender, but not mushy. Cook it for about 15 minutes, or until it is just starting to soften.
  • Use a good quality sauerkraut. This will make a big difference in the flavor of the hotdish. Look for sauerkraut that is fermented for at least six weeks.
  • Add some caraway seeds. This will give the hotdish a traditional German flavor. Add about 1 teaspoon of caraway seeds to the hotdish before baking.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or spaetzle. This is a classic German way to serve sauerkraut hotdish.

Sauerkraut hotdish is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a cold winter day. It's also a great way to use up leftover sauerkraut. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a hearty and flavorful hotdish that the whole family will enjoy.
