Time 1h20m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (1 1/2-2 lb) salmon fillets
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon spicy brown mustard or 1 teaspoon horseradish mustard
1/8-1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
3 green onions, sliced

Steps:

  • Place the salmon in a shallow dish.
  • Combine vinegar, soy sauce, honey, oil, mustard, and ginger; pour over salmon.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour, turning once after 30 minutes.
  • Drain and discard marinade.
  • Broil the salmon or grill, covered, over medium high heat for 15 to 20 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and onions.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Salmon Fillets: Select fresh, skinless, and boneless salmon fillets that are about 1 inch thick and have a vibrant color.
  • Marinate the Salmon: Marinating the salmon in a mixture of soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and garlic powder enhances its flavor and keeps it moist during cooking.
  • Use High-Quality Sesame Seeds: Opt for toasted sesame seeds for a more intense nutty flavor. You can also mix different types of sesame seeds, such as black and white, for a visually appealing dish.
  • Pan-Sear the Salmon: Pan-searing the salmon ensures a crispy outer layer while keeping the inside tender and juicy. Use a well-seasoned cast iron or non-stick skillet for best results.
  • Control the Heat: Cook the salmon over medium-high heat to achieve a golden-brown crust. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning or undercooking.
  • Flip the Salmon Only Once: Avoid flipping the salmon multiple times during cooking, as this can break the delicate flesh. Flip it only once, when the edges are opaque and the underside is golden brown.
  • Cook to the Right Temperature: Insert a digital thermometer into the thickest part of the salmon to ensure it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) for medium-rare or 155°F (68°C) for medium.
  • Make the Sesame Sauce: While the salmon is cooking, prepare the sesame sauce by whisking together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey, and ginger. Adjust the consistency with water or additional oil as desired.
  • Serve with Rice or Vegetables: Pair the sesame salmon with steamed rice, stir-fried vegetables, or a refreshing salad for a complete and satisfying meal.
