SILKY VANILLA BUTTER FROSTING

Silky Vanilla Butter Frosting image

This is not your usual butter-cream made with powdered sugar. Butter is beaten into a flour-thickened base to make an exquisitely light and creamy frosting. Not overly sweet like those made with powdered sugar, but sweet enough to be the perfect compliment for a cake. Make sure the base is completely cooled before beating in the butter. I added in 15 minutes cooling time, but it will vary depending on conditions.

Time 33m

Yield 3 1/4 cups, 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups milk
1 cup butter, softened
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In 2-quart saucepan, thoroughly combine sugar and flour.
  • With wire whisk, gradually stir in milk until smooth.
  • Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until mixture has thickened and boils.
  • Reduce heat to low; cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat and cool completely.
  • In medium bowl, with mixer at medium speed, beat butter until light and fluffy.
  • Gradually beat in milk mixture; beat in vanilla.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients. The better the quality of your ingredients, the better your frosting will be. Use real butter, cream cheese, and vanilla extract, and avoid using margarine, shortening, or imitation vanilla.
  • Make sure your ingredients are cold. This will help the frosting to come together more easily and smoothly.
  • Beat the butter or cream cheese until it is light and fluffy. This will help to incorporate air into the frosting, making it light and creamy.
  • Add the sugar gradually. This will help to prevent the frosting from becoming grainy.
  • Beat the frosting until it is stiff peaks form. This means that the frosting should hold its shape when you lift the beaters out of the bowl.
  • If the frosting is too thick, you can add a little bit of milk or cream. If the frosting is too thin, you can add a little bit more sugar.
  • Use the frosting immediately or store it in the refrigerator for later use. Frosting can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Silky, creamy frosting is the perfect finishing touch to any cake or cupcake. With a few simple tips, you can make frosting that is both delicious and beautiful. So next time you're baking, be sure to try one of these recipes!
