Tips:

  • For the perfect tuna salad, use high-quality tuna packed in water. It should be flaked, not shredded.
  • Use a variety of cheeses for a more complex flavor. Cheddar, Swiss, and mozzarella are all great options.
  • Add some chopped vegetables or herbs to the tuna salad for extra flavor and texture. Celery, onion, and dill are all good choices.
  • If you're using canned tuna, be sure to drain it thoroughly before adding it to the salad.
  • For a more decadent tuna melt, use a sourdough or rye bread. You can also use a croissant or English muffin.
  • Spread a thin layer of butter on the outside of the bread before grilling it. This will help it to brown evenly.
  • Grill the sandwich over medium heat until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Conclusion:

The tuna melt is a classic sandwich that is easy to make and always a hit. With its creamy tuna salad, melted cheese, and grilled bread, it's a satisfying meal that is perfect for lunch or dinner. Whether you're using canned or fresh tuna, there are endless variations on the tuna melt, so you can experiment until you find your perfect recipe.
