CHOCOLATE S'MORES TART
I created this tart for my kids, who love having s'mores on the fire pit. It's truly indulgent. We simply can't get enough of the billowy marshmallow topping. -Dina Crowell, Fredericksburg, Virginia

S'MORES TART
Steps:
- In a small pan over medium heat, warm the milk until it just begins to bubble around the edges. Turn off the heat and add 1 cup chocolate chips. Let sit for a few minutes to melt the chocolate, and then whisk to combine. Pour into the pie crust and put into the freezer until set, about 20 minutes.
- Preheat the broiler to high.
- In a large, clean glass or metal bowl, add the egg whites. Using an electric hand mixer, whisk the egg whites to get them frothy. With the mixer running, slowly beat in the sugar. Continue until they begin to form stiff peaks, 3 to 4 minutes. Beat in the vanilla and marshmallow cream. Spoon the mixture over the chocolate, making sure to cover all the way to the edges of the crust. Put on the middle rack of the oven and broil until the top is lightly browned, 2 to 3 minutes. Garnish with the remaining chocolate chips. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
Tips:
- Choose high-quality chocolate. The better the chocolate, the better the tarts will taste. Look for chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 60%.
- Use fresh fruit. Fresh fruit will give the tarts a brighter, more flavorful taste. If you're using frozen fruit, thaw it completely before using.
- Don't overfill the tart shells. The tarts will be easier to assemble if you don't overfill the shells. Leave about 1/4 inch of space at the top of each shell.
- Bake the tarts until the chocolate is set. The tarts are done baking when the chocolate is set and no longer jiggly. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
- Let the tarts cool completely before serving. The tarts will be easier to handle and will taste better if you let them cool completely before serving.
