Number Of Ingredients 7

2 1/2 c broken pretzel sticks
2 c rice chex
1 1/2 c m & m's or reeses pieces
1/2 c peanut butter
1/2 c peanuts
1/2 c butter
5 c mini marshmallows

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl combine pretzels, cereal and candy. In large saucepan, over low heat melt butter and peanut butter. Add marshmallows and cook, stirring until all is melted and smooth. Pour over snack mixture and stir to coat, mix in peanuts. Press into a buttered 9x13 pan and cool until firm. Cut into squares.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients. The fresher your ingredients, the better your snack mix squares will taste. This is especially important for the nuts and dried fruit.
  • Toast your nuts. Toasting nuts enhances their flavor and makes them more crunchy. You can toast nuts in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-10 minutes, or in a skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Chop your nuts and dried fruit evenly. This will help ensure that they are evenly distributed throughout the snack mix squares.
  • Use a variety of nuts and dried fruit. This will give your snack mix squares a more interesting flavor and texture. Some good options include almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews, raisins, cranberries, and apricots.
  • Add in other ingredients for extra flavor. You could add in chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or even bacon bits.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing the batter will make the snack mix squares tough. Just mix until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the snack mix squares until they are golden brown. This will take about 20-25 minutes.
  • Let the snack mix squares cool completely before cutting them into bars. This will help them hold their shape.

Conclusion:

Snack mix squares are a delicious and easy-to-make snack that is perfect for any occasion. They are also a great way to use up leftover nuts and dried fruit. With so many different variations, you are sure to find a recipe that you love. So next time you are looking for a sweet and salty snack, give snack mix squares a try!
