When cool, remove from pans and place on platter, garnishing with extra mint or store cookies until ready to serve.

HENRY CLAY'S SOUTHERN MINT JULEP
In an age devoted to convenience and speed, the julep throws up some major hurdles. Although it contains only three ingredients -- sugar, bourbon and mint -- it requires time and patience to make. The drink requires large quantities of crushed ice. To lay the foundation for the drink, it is first necessary to muddle the sugar with a little bourbon and a few mint leaves. It should be served with two straws and garnished with a nice bush of mint, sprinkled with a little powdered sugar, please. And of course, you'll want to serve your juleps in a silver or pewter mug.

Tips:
- Choose the right bourbon: A good mint julep starts with a good bourbon. Look for a bourbon that is at least 80 proof and has a smooth, mellow flavor.
- Use fresh mint: Fresh mint is essential for a mint julep. The leaves should be bright green and fragrant. If you can't find fresh mint, you can use dried mint, but it won't be as flavorful.
- Make a simple syrup: Simple syrup is a mixture of sugar and water that is used to sweeten the mint julep. You can make your own simple syrup by dissolving 1 cup of sugar in 1 cup of boiling water. Let the syrup cool completely before using.
- Chill your ingredients: All of your ingredients should be chilled before you make a mint julep. This will help to keep the drink cold and refreshing.
- Use a julep cup: A julep cup is a traditional glass for serving mint juleps. It is tall and narrow with a wide mouth. If you don't have a julep cup, you can use a highball glass or a Collins glass.
Conclusion:
The mint julep is a classic Southern cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With its refreshing flavor and beautiful presentation, the mint julep is sure to be a hit at your next party or gathering.
