Yield Makes about 8 cups
Number Of Ingredients 8
Steps:
- Using vegetable peeler, remove peel (orange part only) from orange in strips. Place orange peel in heavy large pot (reserve orange for another use). Add apple cider, golden brown sugar, fresh lemon juice, cloves, allspice, cardamom pods, and cinnamon sticks to pot. Bring to boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer until cider mixture is reduced to generous 8 cups, about 40 minutes. Strain cider into medium pot. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Cool slightly. Refrigerate until cold, then cover and keep refrigerated.) Rewarm cider. Ladle into mugs.
Tips:
- Choose the right spices: Use a combination of warm and fragrant spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves to enhance the flavor of the cider.
- Use fresh citrus: Fresh oranges, lemons, and limes add a bright and tangy flavor to the cider. Use the zest and juice of the citrus fruits for the best flavor.
- Simmer the cider: Simmering the cider with the spices and citrus fruits allows the flavors to meld and develop. Keep the heat on low and simmer for at least 30 minutes.
- Sweeten to taste: Add honey, maple syrup, or sugar to taste. Start with a small amount and add more until the cider is as sweet as you like.
- Garnish with citrus slices and spices: When serving the cider, garnish it with slices of orange, lemon, or lime. You can also sprinkle some ground cinnamon or nutmeg on top.
Conclusion:
Spiced citrus cider is a delicious and comforting drink that is perfect for fall and winter. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a warm and inviting beverage that will be enjoyed by all.
