Time 1h10m

Yield 4 Dozen

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 cup butter, softened to room temperature
2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
1 teaspoon cajun seasoning
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream butter until fluffy.
  • Add Cheese and mix until blended.
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix till it forms dough.
  • Put dough in refrigerator for 30 minutes. You want slightly stiff dough, but that is pliable enough to pipe through the cookie press.
  • Have cookie press fitted with the ridge tip or star tip.
  • Press dough in 2-inch strips on cookie sheet.
  • Bake 20-25 minutes, or until lightly browned.

Tips:

  • Use a sharp cheddar cheese for the best flavor. You can also use a blend of cheeses, such as cheddar and Parmesan.
  • If you don't have a pastry blender, you can use two forks to cut the butter into the flour.
  • Be sure to chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out. This will help prevent the cheese straws from spreading too much in the oven.
  • If you want to make the cheese straws ahead of time, you can freeze them unbaked for up to 2 months. When you're ready to bake them, thaw them overnight in the refrigerator and then bake them according to the recipe.
  • Serve the cheese straws warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or marinara sauce.

Conclusion:

Spicy cheese straws are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or appetizer. They're perfect for parties, potlucks, or just a casual get-together. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a batch of these tasty treats that everyone will love. So next time you're looking for a crowd-pleasing snack, give spicy cheese straws a try!
