Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 pound shrimp (shell on and deveined, or peeled and deveined shrimp)
1 small onion (finely diced)
6 garlic cloves (minced)
1 cup white wine
2 tbsp paprika
4 tsp pimenta moida (Portuguese hot pepper paste, or hot sauce of choice)
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
¼ cup fresh parsley (chopped)
olive oil (for cooking)
lemon wedges (for serving)

Steps:

  • In a large frying pan, heat oil on medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until softened, approximately 1 minute.
  • Add in salt and paprika and continue sautéing for 1 minute.
  • Add in pimenta moida or hot sauce of choice and stir until fully combined.
  • Add in the shrimp and sauté until they start to turn light pink.
  • Pour in the wine and let simmer for 1 minute on low heat. The wine will evaporate slightly and create a thicker sauce.
  • Season to taste with additional pimenta moida or hot sauce as desired. Pimenta moida already has salt added, so you want to taste the sauce before adding more salt.
  • Stir in fresh chopped parsley. Serve with lemon wedges and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality shrimp. This will ensure that your Mozambique-style spicy shrimp is flavorful and juicy.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the shrimp. This will prevent them from steaming instead of frying, which will result in a less flavorful dish.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pan or skillet to cook the shrimp. This will help to evenly distribute the heat and prevent the shrimp from burning.
  • Add the shrimp to the pan when the oil is hot but not smoking. This will help to prevent the shrimp from sticking to the pan.
  • Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are pink and opaque. Overcooking will make the shrimp tough and rubbery.
  • Serve the Mozambique-style spicy shrimp immediately with your favorite sides. Some popular options include rice, potatoes, or vegetables.

Conclusion:

Mozambique-style spicy shrimp is a delicious and flavorful dish that is perfect for a quick and easy meal. With its bold flavors and vibrant colors, this dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a new and exciting recipe, be sure to try Mozambique-style spicy shrimp.
