STEAK AND ONION SANDWICHES WITH HORSERADISH MAYONNAISE

Steak and Onion Sandwiches with Horseradish Mayonnaise image

Categories     Sandwich     Beef     Onion     Sauté     Kid-Friendly     Quick & Easy     Back to School     Lunch     Horseradish     Mayonnaise     Arugula     Winter     Poker/Game Night     Bon Appétit     Peanut Free     Tree Nut Free     Soy Free     Small Plates

Yield Makes 2 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 tablespoons butter, divided
1 medium red onion, thinly sliced into rounds
1 12-ounce rib-eye steak, about 3/4 inch thick
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
2 kaiser rolls, halved horizontally, lightly toasted
1 cup arugula

Steps:

  • Melt 2 tablespoons butter in large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onion; sauté until soft and lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Transfer to plate.
  • Add remaining 1 tablespoon butter to skillet and increase heat to medium-high. Season steak on both sides with salt and pepper. Add to skillet and cook to desired doneness, about 2 minutes per side for medium-rare. Transfer steak to work surface; cover and let stand 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, mix mayonnaise and horseradish in small bowl. Spread mixture over cut sides of rolls. Thinly slice steak. Place steak slices on roll bottoms. Top with onions and arugula, then roll tops, and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right steak: For a tender and flavorful sandwich, choose a steak that is at least 1-inch thick. Ribeye, strip loin, and flank steak are all good options.
  • Cook the steak properly: To ensure that the steak is cooked to your liking, use a meat thermometer. For a medium-rare steak, cook the steak to an internal temperature of 135 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher the ingredients, the better the sandwich will taste. Use fresh onion rings, cheese sauce, and bread.
  • Assemble the sandwich carefully: To prevent the sandwich from falling apart, assemble it carefully. Place the steak on the bottom bun, top with the onion rings, cheese sauce, and the top bun.
  • Serve immediately: The steak sandwich is best served immediately after it is assembled. This will ensure that the steak is still hot and the cheese sauce is melted.

Conclusion:

The steak sandwich with onion rings and cheese sauce is a delicious and hearty sandwich that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like your steak rare or well-done, this sandwich is sure to please everyone.
