Time 40m

Yield 12 cocktail servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 dozen chicken wings, about 3 1/4 pounds, rinsed and patted dry
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Olive oil
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted in a skillet over medium heat until lightly browned
Leaves from 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1 cup grapefruit juice
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 fresh, hot red chile, halved
5 garlic cloves, halved
2-inch piece fresh ginger, smashed with the side of a large knife

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Season the chicken wings with salt and pepper and drizzle a little olive oil on them to prevent sticking. Lay the wings in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes or until the skin gets crispy and the wings are cooked through.
  • Meanwhile, combine the teriyaki sauce ingredients in a large saucepan. Simmer over low heat and reduce until slightly thickened. Pour the sauce into a large bowl. Dump the wings into the bowl and toss to coat them with the sauce. Transfer to a serving platter and sprinkle with the sesame seeds and cilantro. Serve hot.

Time 25m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 lbs chicken wings
1 cup low sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 lemon, juiced
kosher salt
fresh ground black pepper
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup honey
sesame seeds, for garnish

Steps:

  • Rinse chicken wings and pat dry. Remove tip and discard; separate each wing at the joint into 2 pieces.
  • In a shallow dish combine the soy sauce, ginger, cilantro, garlic, and lemon juice. Add wings and toss well to coat; marinate, refrigerated, for 2 hours.
  • Remove wings from marinade and pat dry; season with salt and pepper.
  • In a large saute pan over medium-high heat, melt the butter in the olive oil. When the butter stops foaming, add the honey and chicken wings and fry until browned on each side, about 5 minutes.
  • Continue cooking the wings, turning them over often to coat them as the glaze reduces. Cook until the wings are sticky and cooked through.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and serve.

Tips:

  • Select the right chicken wings: Choose wings that are plump, meaty, and have a good amount of skin. Avoid wings that are bruised or have any discoloration.
  • Make sure the chicken wings are dry before cooking: This will help the wings get crispy. You can pat them dry with paper towels or let them air dry for a few minutes.
  • Use a combination of wet and dry ingredients for the marinade: The wet ingredients will help the wings stay moist, while the dry ingredients will help them get crispy. Tyler Florence's recipe uses honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and five-spice powder.
  • Marinate the chicken wings for at least 30 minutes: This will allow the flavors to penetrate the chicken. You can marinate the wings for up to 24 hours, but 30 minutes is the minimum amount of time needed.
  • Cook the chicken wings at a high temperature: This will help them get crispy. You can bake or fry the wings, but Tyler Florence recommends frying them for the best results.
  • Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the chicken wings: The wings are done cooking when they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Serve the chicken wings with your favorite dipping sauce: Tyler Florence recommends serving the wings with a honey-soy dipping sauce, but you can use any dipping sauce you like.

Conclusion:

Tyler Florence's sticky honey soy chicken wings are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. The wings are marinated in a combination of honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and five-spice powder, then fried until crispy. They are served with a honey-soy dipping sauce. These wings are sure to be a hit at your next party or gathering.
