STUFFED TUNA STEAKS

An Asian flavor that is very unique and delicious. This is one of those recipes that looks fancy but is actually quite easy to prepare. I used pre-bagged mixed greens, found near the bagged salads in the grocery store. You can make this in your broiler or on the grill!

Time 20m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 cups mesclun or 1 1/2 cups other mixed greens, torn
2 (3/4 lb) tuna steaks
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon any strong mustard
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup dry white wine (or water)
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons lime juice

Steps:

  • Preaheat your grill or broiler.
  • Mix together all the ingredients except the tuna and greens.
  • Use a sharp, thin-bladed knife to make a small incision on any side of the tuna steak, creating a pocket, being careful not to cut through to the other side.
  • You can also make a small cut and then either wiggle the knife around gently or just start slowly easing the inside apart to create a large pocket.
  • Place the tuna in the soy mixture, covering each side.
  • Remove tuna from liquid, letting excess sauce drip off.
  • Toss the greens with the sauce, drenching it in the liquid.
  • Stuff the tuna pocket with the greens and seal the opening with toothpicks.
  • Grill or broil the tuna, turning once, about 5 minutes per inch of thickness, or however well-done you like your tuna.

GRILLED TUNA STEAKS WITH GRAPE AND STUFFED OLIVE SALSA

Grilled Tuna Steaks with Grape and Stuffed Olive Salsa image

The olives reflect nicely the saltiness of capers without being overpowering, while the celery added the freshness of parsley with a subtle crunch. The small onion and celery work because I use a slicer to make them paper-thin.

Categories     Fish     Marinate     Healthy     Low Carb

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 limes (juice of)
1/2 cup soy sauce (high-quality)
1 garlic clove (medium-sized, minced)
1 teaspoon mustard (strong)
2 teaspoons ginger (fresh, peeled and finely minced or substitute 1 tea ground)
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon black pepper (coarsely ground)
1/4 cup white wine (dry or substitute water)
1 1/2 pounds tuna steak (no less than 1 1/4 inches thick)
1 cup arugula (small bunch, leaves)

Steps:

  • Mix together all the ingredients except the tuna and arugula.
  • Marinate the tuna in it for no more than 1 hour (less is fine). Refrigerate if the weather is warm.
  • Wash and pick over the arugula; remove woody stems.
  • Start a charcoal or wood fire (the fire should be quite hot) or preheat a gas grill or broiler.
  • Remove the tuna from the marinade and dry it gently with paper towels.
  • Toss the arugula with the marinade.
  • Using a sharp, thin-bladed knife (i.e., a boning knife) make a small incision halfway down any edge of the tuna steak.
  • Insert the knife almost to the opposite edge of the steak, then move it back and forth, flipping it over and creating a large pocket. Be careful not to cut through the top, bottom, or opposite edge of the tuna, and try to keep the entry point small.
  • Stuff the pocket with the arugula, still drenched in marinade.
  • If you've kept the pocket opening small, seal it with a toothpick; if it's more than 1 to 2 inches wide, use a couple of skewers.
  • Grill the tuna, turning once, about 6 minutes per inch of thickness (if your steak is 1 1/2 inches thick, for example, turn it after about 4 minutes and cook 4 to 5 minutes more).
  • Serve, cut into quarters or 1/2-inch-thick slices.

Tips:

  • Select high-quality tuna steaks: Choose steaks that are firm to the touch and have a bright red color. Avoid any steaks that are slimy or have a fishy odor.
  • Use a variety of fillings: Don't be afraid to experiment with different fillings for your tuna steaks. Some popular options include crab meat, shrimp, vegetables, and cheese.
  • Season the tuna steaks generously: Don't be shy with the seasonings when it comes to tuna steaks. A good rub of salt, pepper, and garlic powder can go a long way in enhancing the flavor.
  • Cook the tuna steaks properly: Tuna steaks are best cooked over medium heat. This will help to prevent them from drying out. You can cook the steaks in a skillet, on the grill, or in the oven.
  • Let the tuna steaks rest before serving: Once the tuna steaks are cooked, let them rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, resulting in a more tender and flavorful bite.

Conclusion:

Stuffed tuna steaks are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a variety of fillings and seasonings to choose from, you can create a stuffed tuna steak that is sure to please everyone at the table. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give stuffed tuna steaks a try. You won't be disappointed.
