Steps:
- 1. In a small bowl, combine the flour and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs. Gradually add the water, tossing with a fork until a ball forms. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until easy to handle.
- 2. Follow directions for your mini pie maker.
Tips:
- Use a variety of apples. This will give your pie a more complex flavor and texture. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady.
- Peel and core your apples thinly. This will help them to cook evenly.
- Add a little bit of lemon juice to your apples. This will help to prevent them from browning.
- Use a sugar-free sweetener that you like. There are many different options available, so choose one that you think will taste good in your pie.
- Don't overfill your pie crust. This will make it difficult to seal the crust and prevent the filling from spilling out.
- Bake your pie at a high temperature for the first 15 minutes. This will help to create a golden brown crust.
- Reduce the oven temperature and continue baking until the filling is bubbly and the crust is cooked through.
- Let your pie cool completely before serving. This will help the filling to set.
