Categories     dessert

Time 10m

Yield 5 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 (1 pound boxes) confectioners' sugar
1 cup water
5 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
Food coloring, as desired (see suggested colors below)

Steps:

  • Put the sugar in an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. With the mixer on the lowest speed, slowly add the water, the corn syrup and vanilla extract. When the sugar is sufficiently moistened (it won't fly out of the mixer), raise the speed to high, and beat for 2 minutes until completely smooth and glossy.
  • Divide and color, as desired. Store at room temperature, covered with plastic wrap directly on the surface of the icing, to prevent forming a skin.
  • For cupcakes: Dip the surface of the cupcakes into the icing, allowing excess to drip into bowl. Clean any excess from the sides. Alternately, use a knife or a spreader to apply. Whisk as needed to keep icing glossy and smooth while using.
  • For Light Blue Icing: Combine 2 to 3 drops of blue food coloring to 1 cup of Basic Glaze Icing.
  • For Deep Yellow Icing: Combine 4 to 5 drops of yellow food coloring to 1 cup of Basic Glaze Icing.
  • For Purple Icing: Combine 4 drops of red and 5 drops of blue food coloring to 1 cup of Basic Glaze Icing.

QUICK GLAZE

Categories     Food & Cooking     Dessert & Treats Recipes

Number Of Ingredients 1

1/2 cup confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix confectioners' sugar and 1 to 2 teaspoons water until a smooth but thick glaze forms (too thin a glaze will be absorbed by the cake). Place a piece of waxed paper under cooling rack for easy cleanup. Spoon glaze back and forth over cake, forming a pattern. Keep cake on cooling rack until glaze is set, 15 to 20 minutes.

Tips for Making the Perfect Icing, Glaze, or Drizzle:

  • Use the right ingredients: Make sure to use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best results. This includes using real butter or cream, not margarine or milk.
  • Follow the recipe carefully: Don't skip any steps or ingredients, as this can affect the final outcome of your icing, glaze, or drizzle.
  • Be patient: Some icings and glazes need time to set properly. Be patient and allow them to cool or chill completely before serving.
  • Practice makes perfect: The more you make icings, glazes, and drizzles, the better you'll become at it. Don't be afraid to experiment with different flavors and techniques to find what you like best.

Conclusion:

Icing, glaze, or drizzle can add a delicious and beautiful finishing touch to your baked goods. With a little practice, you can easily make your own delicious toppings at home. So next time you're baking, don't forget to add a little extra sweetness with a homemade icing, glaze, or drizzle.
