This family favorite came from my great-grandmother Ida Maria, who was born in 1887. She grew up in Dalarna, a province in Sweden, and moved to the United States when she was 16. And now we prepare this recipe every year for the holidays. I love it! It you want, serve with Lingonberries.

  • Cook the rice properly: The rice should be cooked until it is tender but still has a slight bite to it. Do not overcook the rice, or it will become mushy.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot: A heavy-bottomed pot will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the rice pudding from scorching.
  • Stir the pudding constantly: Stir the pudding constantly while it is cooking to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot and burning.
  • Let the pudding cool before serving: The pudding will thicken as it cools. Let it cool for at least 2 hours before serving, or even overnight.
