SWEET BBQ MEATBALLS

I know tons of people that make this for parties and get-togethers and they are always a hit because they are so good and easy! I wanted to make this to, so between internet searching and my sister-in-law this is what I came up with. My sister-in-law said she adds water but I like the sauce to be thicker, so this can be up to you. Since it is going into the slow cooker, it is going to loosen up as it cooks anyways. Note: Everything will fit into a 2 quart slow cooker.

Time 4h5m

Number Of Ingredients 14

3 lb ground beef
2 eggs
2 Tbsp minced garlic
3-4 Tbsp brown sugar
4 Tbsp ketsup
2 tsp teriyaki sauce
1 bottle sweet baby rays bbq sauce or any that you like
1 large onion finely diced
3 Tbsp liquid smoke flavoring (optional)
2 1/2 Tbsp honey mustard
1 Tbsp molasses (can use maple syrup instead)
1 Tbsp paprika
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl add the ground beef, eggs, minced garlic, and finely diced onion. Combine and roll into balls that are about the size of a golf ball. Set aside.
  • 2. In a medium bowl, add brown sugar, ketchup, teriyaki sauce, bbq sauce, liquid smoke, honey mustard, molasses, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix well, cover and set aside for later.
  • 3. place the meatballs in a crockpot on high and let cook till almost done (about 2 hours). Add the bbq sauce and mix so all meatballs are covered. Let it cook till bbq sauce gets really thick. (about 2 more hours). Serve and enjoy! If there are any left over I chop them up and make baked beans with them..yummm!!
  • 4. The first time I made these were as an appetizer for a party and I blindly made them hoping they would be good just for the sake of something different. Everyone loved them and came back for more. After 5 yrs that is the main request I get for parties :)

Tips:

  • Choose the right type of meat. Ground beef is a classic choice for meatballs, but you can also use ground pork, lamb, or turkey. If you're using a leaner meat, like turkey, you may want to add some bread crumbs or oats to help bind the meatballs together.
  • Use a variety of spices and herbs. This will give your meatballs a more complex flavor. Some good options include garlic, onion, oregano, basil, and thyme.
  • Don't overcook the meatballs. They should be cooked through, but still slightly moist in the center. Overcooked meatballs will be tough and dry.
  • Make sure the sauce is thick enough. The sauce should be thick enough to coat the meatballs, but not so thick that it's difficult to stir.
  • Serve the meatballs hot. They're best when they're fresh out of the oven or off the grill.

Conclusion:

Sweet BBQ meatballs are a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as an appetizer, main course, or even a side dish. They're perfect for parties, potlucks, and family gatherings. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make these meatballs at home. So next time you're looking for a new recipe to try, give these sweet BBQ meatballs a try. You won't be disappointed!
