Time 20m

Yield 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 14

15 ounces tomato sauce
1/2 cup root beer
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely minced
1 garlic clove, finely minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients into small saucepan.
  • Bring to boil & then reduce to a simmer. Cook until thickened approx 15-20 minutes.
  • Use immediately or store in refrigerator tightly sealed after chilling.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, flavorful tomatoes: The quality of your tomatoes will greatly impact the taste of your sauce. Look for tomatoes that are deep red in color, plump, and free of blemishes.
  • Roast your tomatoes: Roasting the tomatoes before making the sauce concentrates their flavor and gives the sauce a richer, more complex taste. You can roast the tomatoes in the oven or on the stovetop.
  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs like basil, oregano, and thyme will add a bright, lively flavor to your sauce. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but be sure to use less, as they are more concentrated.
  • Don't skimp on the garlic: Garlic is a key ingredient in Sweet Sassy Sauce. It adds a savory, pungent flavor that balances out the sweetness of the tomatoes. Use at least 2 cloves of garlic, or more if you like a garlicky sauce.
  • Simmer your sauce for at least 30 minutes: Simmering the sauce allows the flavors to meld and develop. The longer you simmer the sauce, the richer and more flavorful it will be.

Conclusion:

Sweet Sassy Sauce is a versatile sauce that can be used on a variety of dishes. It's perfect for pasta, pizza, chicken, fish, and vegetables. It can also be used as a dipping sauce or spread. No matter how you use it, Sweet Sassy Sauce is sure to add a delicious burst of flavor to your meals.
