Time 5m

Yield 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 tablespoons salt
3 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons black pepper
2 tablespoons chili peppers
1 tablespoon celery salt
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1/2 tablespoon white pepper
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 tablespoon dried lemon peel (zest)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients together. Store in air tight container until ready to use.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of spices. The best Texas dry rubs use a combination of sweet, savory, salty, and spicy flavors. Some common spices used in Texas dry rubs include chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to making a Texas dry rub. Feel free to adjust the proportions of spices to suit your own taste. You can also add other ingredients to your rub, such as brown sugar, molasses, or coffee grounds.
  • Use a coarse grind. A coarse grind will help the rub adhere to the meat better. You can use a food processor or a mortar and pestle to grind the spices.
  • Apply the rub liberally. Don't be shy about applying the rub. You want to make sure that the meat is evenly coated.
  • Let the rub sit for at least 30 minutes. This will give the spices time to penetrate the meat and develop their flavor.
  • Cook the meat over indirect heat. This will help to prevent the rub from burning.

Conclusion:

A good Texas dry rub can take your barbecue to the next level. With a little experimentation, you can create a rub that is perfect for your taste. So fire up the grill and give it a try!
