2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1/4 cup celery, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt

⅓ onion, chopped
5 cloves garlic, minced

  • Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat and sprinkle with red pepper flakes. Add onions and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. 1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 small red bell peppers or 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
5 cloves garlic, pressed
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1/3 cup dry red wine
1 tablespoon dried Italian herb seasoning (I like McCormick's Italian Seasoning blend, but you can use any combination of dried herbs like marj)
1 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon fennel seed, crushed
2 bay leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
black pepper
2 teaspoons brown sugar
