FRUIT & TOMATO SALSA

Fruit & Tomato Salsa image

This is a spicy, fruity salsa . We use it with chips, of course, but it can be a condiment with meat dishes as well. My family and friends eat it by the jar; we love the sweet and spicy combination! It is mild to medium in heat, but it is easy to adjust for taste. You can "cheat " by adding tomato paste to thicken, if too runny.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, flavorful tomatoes: The riper the tomatoes, the sweeter and more flavorful your salsa will be. Look for tomatoes that are deep red and free of blemishes.
  • Use a variety of tomatoes: Different types of tomatoes offer different flavors and textures. For a well-rounded salsa, use a mix of Roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and heirloom tomatoes.
  • Roast your tomatoes: Roasting tomatoes intensifies their flavor and brings out their natural sweetness. To roast tomatoes, simply halve them and toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Roast them in a 400°F oven for 20-30 minutes, or until they are softened and slightly charred.
  • Add fruit for sweetness and acidity: Fruit adds a sweet and tangy flavor to salsa that balances out the acidity of the tomatoes. Some popular fruits to add to salsa include mango, pineapple, papaya, and peaches.
  • Use fresh herbs and spices: Fresh herbs and spices add flavor and depth to salsa. Some popular herbs and spices to add to salsa include cilantro, basil, oregano, cumin, and chili powder.
  • Don't over-process your salsa: Salsa should have a chunky texture, so avoid over-processing it in a food processor or blender. Simply chop the ingredients into small pieces and mix them together.
  • Chill your salsa before serving: Chilled salsa is more refreshing and flavorful. Chill your salsa for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Conclusion:

Tomato salsa with fruit is a delicious and refreshing salsa that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. Experiment with different types of tomatoes, fruits, herbs, and spices to create your own unique salsa recipe. With so many flavor combinations to choose from, you are sure to find a tomato salsa with fruit that you love.
