Tips

  • Prep your cabbage properly: To ensure your cabbage is tender and flavorful, remove the outer leaves, cut the cabbage into quarters, and remove the core. Then, thinly slice the cabbage using a sharp knife or a mandoline.
  • Use a variety of fillings: Don't limit yourself to just ground beef. Try different fillings like ground pork, sausage, or a combination of meats. You can also add vegetables like carrots, bell peppers, or mushrooms for extra flavor and texture.
  • Don't overcook your filling: Overcooked filling will make your pie dry and tough. Cook the filling until it is just cooked through, but still retains some moisture.
  • Use a good quality puff pastry: The puff pastry is what gives the pie its flaky, golden crust. Choose a puff pastry that is made with real butter for the best flavor and texture.
  • Chill your pie before baking: Chilling the pie before baking helps the filling to set and prevents the crust from becoming too puffy. This will result in a more evenly cooked pie.
  • Brush the pie with egg wash before baking: Egg wash gives the pie a golden brown color and a shiny finish. Brush the pie with egg wash just before baking to achieve the perfect crust.

Conclusion

Transylvanian cabbage pie is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. With its flaky crust, tender cabbage, and savory filling, this pie is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a delicious and comforting meal, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
