Nonstick cooking spray, for the parchment
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 large egg white
1 cup pecans
1 habanero pepper
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup orange juice
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups cubed cantaloupe
1 1/2 cups grapes
3 kiwis, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
1 apple, cut into 1-inch pieces

Steps:

  • For the spicy roasted pecans: Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment and coat with cooking spray.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
3 large egg whites
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups pecan halves

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a large baking sheet with sides with aluminum foil. Pour the butter onto the lined sheet. In a large bowl, mix the egg whites, sugar and cinnamon. Add the pecan halves and toss until they are fully coated. Spread the pecans onto the baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring the pecans every 10 minutes. Cool on the baking sheet for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Pecans will crisp as they cool.

Tips:

  • Choose the freshest pecans you can find. Fresh pecans will have a sweet, nutty flavor and be free of mold or blemishes.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan. This will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the pecans from burning.
  • Toast the pecans before adding them to the sugar mixture. This will help to bring out their flavor and make them more crunchy.
  • Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature of the sugar mixture. The mixture should reach 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius) before removing it from the heat.
  • Stir the pecans constantly while they are cooking in the sugar mixture. This will help to prevent them from sticking together.
  • Spread the pecans out on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet to cool. This will help to prevent them from sticking together.
  • Store the sugared pecans in an airtight container at room temperature. They will keep for up to two weeks.

Conclusion:

Sugared pecans are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed on their own, added to desserts, or used as a topping for salads or yogurt. They are also a great gift for friends and family. With a little time and effort, you can easily make your own sugared pecans at home. So next time you are looking for a sweet and crunchy snack, give this recipe a try.
