ONE RECIPE, TWO MEALS: TUNA SALAD

One Recipe, Two Meals: Tuna Salad image

Here's a cool, classic variant on tuna salad for your kiddies. I kept the binder pretty neutral, but instead of mayo, I swirled in a bit of Greek yogurt to lighten it up. It's also loaded with a hint of mustard, and fresh celery and apple, which I feel like all kids like, right? Now for the deluxe version. It's laced with fresh lemon juice and curry powder-what? I also threw in some chopped almonds, fresh parsley, a bunch of red grapes and minced celery to boost the antioxidants.

Time 20m

Yield 4 servings (2 kids, 2 adults)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons curry powder
1 to 2 tablespoons chopped red apple
Three 5-ounce cans albacore tuna in water, drained
2 celery stalks, minced
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
1/2 cup halved purple (seedless) grapes
1/3 cup chopped roasted and salted almonds (dry almonds are fine)
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
Serving suggestion: your favorite crackers or toast; 2 split and lightly toasted croissants or your favorite sandwich bread

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the mustard, 1 tablespoon yogurt and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. In a large bowl whisk together the curry powder, the remaining 2 1/2 tablespoons yogurt and the remaining tablespoon lemon juice.
  • To the medium bowl, add the apple, 1 can of the tuna, half of the celery and a small pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well with a wooden spoon. This is the kids' tuna salad! Refrigerate until ready to eat, or serve immediately on crackers or toast.

THE BEST TUNA SALAD

The Best Tuna Salad image

While we love many kinds of tuna salad, this classic version tops them all. The crispy celery and red onion give add zest and crunch, while mayonnaise and touch of mustard marry it all together. The lemon juice is optional as it's not traditional, but we strongly recommend it to brighten up the flavors of the final dish.

Easy (And Tasty) Tuna Salad for One image

I made this up all by myself. My mom and I are big tuna eaters. I eat tuna everyday and I find this to be the EASIEST and TASTIEST way I can possibly make my tuna salad for my lunch everyday. It's very quick and takes me about 5 minutes, it's also low fat and good for you. My mom tells me all the time that she loves it. I enjoy it as well, I eat this tuna salad nearly every day for lunch at school. I eat it with crackers, on bread or plain with some fruit, the Mrs. Dash gives it a great flavor, I always keep Mrs. Dash on hand. I hope you like it. It's a recipe concocted by a 15 year old chef. lol.

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (3 ounce) can albacore tuna, drained (I prefer Starkist Albacore Tuna, in the single serving cans)

1 teaspoon honey mustard (use a little more if tuna salad is too dry, I use a teaspoonful)
1/2 teaspoon Mrs. Dash seasoning mix
1 baby carrots, chopped (optional)
sweet relish (optional)

Steps:

  • Drain your tuna well.
  • Scoop into a bowl with a fork and flake it well with your fork, breaking up the larger chunks of tuna.

  • Eat it on 2 slices of whole wheat bread, with tortilla chips, or with crackers.
  • Sometimes I just eat it plain it tastes just fine that way.

TUNA SALAD

Tuna Salad image

Delicious on its own, this tuna salad recipe also makes a memorable Two Bite Tuna Melt.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Ingredients     Seafood Recipes

Yield Makes 2 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 six-ounce can water-packed tuna, drained
2 tablespoons Homemade Mayonnaise, or prepared
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons finely minced celery
1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, combine tuna, mayonnaise, mustard, celery, lemon juice, zest, and salt and pepper to taste. Using a fork, mix well until thoroughly combined. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 1 day.

Tips for Making the Best Tuna Salad for Two:

  • Use High-Quality Ingredients: Opt for fresh, flavorful tuna, crisp celery, and crunchy red onion. Fresh herbs, such as dill or parsley, add a pop of freshness and flavor.
  • Choose the Right Tuna: Canned tuna comes in a variety of types and qualities. Look for solid white albacore tuna in water or olive oil for the best taste and texture.
  • Drain the Tuna Properly: Draining the tuna thoroughly removes excess water, preventing a watery tuna salad. Gently pat the tuna dry with paper towels for even better results.
  • Use the Right Amount of Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise binds the tuna salad together, but too much can overwhelm the other ingredients. Aim for a ratio of about 1/4 cup of mayonnaise to 1 can of tuna.
  • Season to Taste: Don't be afraid to adjust the seasonings to your liking. Add more salt, pepper, or lemon juice until the flavors come together harmoniously.

Conclusion:

Tuna salad is a versatile and delicious dish that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Whether you prefer it as a sandwich filling, a salad topping, or a dip for crackers, this classic recipe is sure to satisfy. With a few simple tips and tricks, you can create a tuna salad that is both flavorful and satisfying.
