A healthier alternative to regular chili. This chili is economical and freezes well. I threw it together with things I already had in my kitchen after ground turkey went on sale at the store.

TRADITIONAL CHILI WITH GROUND TURKEY
A traditional style chili that can be made with ground turkey or ground beef. I have made this recipe with ground beef and ground turkey, and they both have a similar flavor. Delicious with sweet corn bread and shredded Cheddar cheese. After the initial cooking on the stove, you can easily transfer this to a slow cooker.

TURKEY CHILI
You might not think of chili as an easy weeknight dish, but this turkey version from Pierre Franey will change your mind. It's fabulous, it's healthy and it can be ready in about a half hour. A combination of dark and white meat really adds depth and richness of flavor, so try to find a mix, but all white meat (or a mixture of ground beef and turkey) will yield a stellar batch too.

TURKEY CHILI
This is my mom's chili recipe with a twist. I'm not a big meat-eater so I use ground turkey, but you can certainly use ground beef if you like. I like making it in the Crockpot and letting it stew all day (just don't add the meat until 30 minutes before serving or else I think it get too tough), or on the stovetop is fine too. Also my family is really into spice so I tend to use at least one habanero pepper but any chili pepper can be used or omitted altogether. The leftovers are wonderful!! Enjoy!!

Tips:
- Choose the right turkey meat: Ground turkey breast is a lean and flavorful option for chili, but you can also use ground turkey thigh if you prefer a richer flavor.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: When browning the turkey, make sure to do it in batches so that the meat doesn't steam and become tough.
- Use a variety of beans: This recipe calls for black beans and kidney beans, but you can use any type of beans you like. Some other good options include pinto beans, navy beans, and Great Northern beans.
- Add some heat: If you like your chili spicy, add a chopped jalapeño pepper or a teaspoon of chili powder.
- Let the chili simmer: The longer you simmer the chili, the more flavorful it will be. Aim for at least 30 minutes, but you can simmer it for up to an hour if you have time.
- Serve with your favorite toppings: Chili is traditionally served with sour cream, shredded cheese, and chopped onions. However, you can also add other toppings like avocado, cilantro, or crumbled tortilla chips.
Conclusion:
This turkey chili is a hearty and flavorful meal that's perfect for a cold winter day. It's also a great way to use up leftover turkey after Thanksgiving or Christmas. With its simple ingredients and easy-to-follow instructions, this recipe is sure to become a family favorite.
