Steps:

  • 1. Ingredients 1 (6 ounce) package quick-cooking long grain and wild rice mix 1 (10 ounce) package frozen cut broccoli, thawed and drained 2 cups cubed fully cooked ham 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted 1 cup mayonnaise 2 teaspoons prepared mustard 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese Directions Prepare the rice according to package directions. Spoon into an ungreased 2-1/2-qt. baking dish. Top with broccoli and ham. Combine the soup, mayonnaise and mustard. Spread over rice mixture and mix gently. Cover and bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until bubbly. Sprinkle with cheese. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham. A bone-in ham will add more flavor to the casserole, but it will also take longer to cook. If you're short on time, you can use a boneless ham steak or diced ham.
  • Soak the wild rice before cooking. This will help to reduce the cooking time and make the rice more tender.
  • Don't overcook the rice. Wild rice should be cooked until it is tender but still has a slight chew to it.
  • Use a variety of vegetables. This will add flavor, color, and nutrients to the casserole. Some good options include celery, carrots, onions, mushrooms, and broccoli.
  • Season the casserole to taste. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder or other herbs and spices as desired.
  • Top the casserole with cheese before baking. This will give the casserole a golden brown crust.
  • Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the casserole to set.

Conclusion:

Wild rice and ham casserole is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Plus, it's a great way to use up leftover ham.
