Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes image

This is a different take on the "Sloppy Joe". It's good and cheesy. It can be served open-face or in hamburger style accompanied with chips, pickles, coleslaw or any other side that you prefer.

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 lb ground italian sausage (mild or hot)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
8 oz cheddar or velveeta cheese, cut into small cubes
1/4 - 1/2 c milk
1 small onion, diced
1 small bell pepper, seeded and diced
1 - 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and diced
1 Tbsp minced garlic
10 - 12 hamburger buns or your favorite bun
shredded cheddar cheese for garnish (optional)
chopped green onion for garnish (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. In a large pan on medium heat, brown the beef and sausage; drain and return to the pot.
  • 2. Add the salt, black pepper, onion, bell pepper, jalapeno and garlic. Stir and cook for 3 or 4 minutes until onion starts to soften.
  • 3. Add cubed cheese and milk and cook on medium low heat until cheese is melted, stirring constantly so cheese won't scorch.
  • 4. Serve hot beef mixture on warm hamburger buns along with your favorite chips, pickles, cole slaw, etc.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my sloppy joes turned out really runny. I think I might have added too much water.

These sloppy joes were way too spicy for me. I couldn't even finish one.

I followed the recipe exactly, but my sloppy joes turned out really bland. I think I might have used the wrong kind of ground beef.
