Copycat Trader Vic's Mai Tai image

The original cocktail was created by Trader Vic Bergeron in San Francisco California in 1944 - it became the signature drink for his chain of restaurants. You'll note that there's nary a drop of orange or pineapple juice. For this reason, Mai Tais made with any sort of juice (besides lime juice) are not "true" Mai Tais.

This Mai Tai recipe was a bit too sweet for my liking. I'll try reducing the amount of simple syrup next time.

This Mai Tai recipe is a bit too strong for my taste. I'll have to cut back on the rum next time.

Not bad! This Mai Tai recipe is a good starting point, but I think it needs a little more lime juice and orgeat syrup. Otherwise, it's a solid recipe.
