Crockpot Hungarian Goulash image

Goulash is the national dish of Hungary and the Hungarian paprika is a characteristic seasoning. The stew meat becomes nice and tender after cooking all day. This is a great comfort food meal with the addition of the cooked egg noodles.

3 c onion, chopped
1 1/2 c green bell pepper, coarsely chopped (or your choice pepper)
3 clove garlic, minced
3 lb beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 can(s) 6-oz. can tomato paste
4 tsp hungarian paprika or or regular paprika
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp salt
4 c hot cooked egg noodles
1/2 c sour cream

Steps:

  • 1. In a 3 1/2 or 4 quart slow cooker, combine onion, green bell pepper and garlic. Top with meat. In a small bowl combine tomato paste, 1/2 cup water, paprika, 1/4 tsp salt, and pepper. Pour over meat.
  • 2. Cover and cook on low heat setting for 10-12 hours or on high heat setting for 5-6 hours.
  • 3. Serve over hot cooked noodles. Pass sour cream.
