Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 cups fresh berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, or any combination)
1/2 cup apple juice
2 teaspoons cornstarch or arrowroot
1 tablespoon natural granulated sugar, or to taste, optional

Steps:

  • Wash the berries well. Use small berries such as blueberries or raspberries whole; remove hulls and chop strawberries into approximately 1/2-inch chunks.
  • Combine the berries in a medium-size saucepan with the apple juice. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook gently until all the berries have softened and burst, 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Dissolve the cornstarch in 1/4 cup cold water. Stir slowly into the berry mixture and simmer until it has thickened, about 1 minute. If you'd like the sauce to be sweeter, stir in the optional brown sugar to taste. Let cool to room temperature before serving.

This sauce is perfect for a quick and easy dessert. I just heat it up in the microwave and serve it over ice cream or pound cake.

This sauce is a bit too sweet for my taste. I would recommend using less sugar, or omitting it altogether.

Meh.

This sauce is a great way to use up leftover berries. I always have a few berries that start to go bad at the end of the week, and this sauce is a great way to use them up before they go to waste.

Not bad, but not great.

The sauce was a bit too runny for my taste, but the flavor was still great. Next time, I'll try adding a cornstarch slurry to thicken it up.

Wow!

This berry sauce was a delightful addition to my pancakes! The sweetness of the berries complemented the tanginess of the lemon juice perfectly. I also appreciated how easy it was to make - it only took about 10 minutes.
