Fried Cheese Egg Toast image

Craving something new to shake up your breakfast routine? Love runny yolks? Then this fast and easy fried cheese egg toast recipe is for you. Be careful though, since it won't be easy going back to that bowl of oatmeal after this. While pan-frying cheese may not sound particularly healthy, as it caramelizes, it gives up a fair amount of butter fat, which stays behind in the pan. This might just be the new way to breakfast!

Time 15m

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 ounce grated Cheddar cheese
1 pinch red pepper flakes
1 large egg
1 slice toast
1 teaspoon sliced green onions, or to taste
1 pinch salt

  • Sprinkle Cheddar cheese into a nonstick skillet over medium heat, forming a circular shape. Fry until cheese is bubbling and starts to brown around the edges, about 2 minutes. Sprinkle red pepper flakes over the cheese.
  • Crack egg over the center. Poke the tip of your spatula through the egg white until some of it runs out and flattens over the pan. Cook until cheese is browned to your liking and egg white starts to set, 3 to 5 minutes more. Scrape up the sides using your spatula and fold them over the yolk. Continue cooking for a few seconds until egg is securely encased but still runny.
  • Transfer onto toast and top with green onions. Break open the yolk and sprinkle salt on top.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but my fried cheese egg toast turned out really bland. The eggs were overcooked and the cheese was rubbery. I think I'll stick to my usual breakfast routine.

I tried this recipe and it turned out great! The instructions were easy to follow and the dish was ready in no time. I used cheddar cheese and it melted perfectly. I would recommend adding some diced tomatoes or avocado for extra flavor.
