I've become fanatical about the sour dough pull apart bread appetizers posted all over the blog world. Soooooo, here's an original one from Plain Chicken's blog.

Time 35m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (16 ounce) round sourdough loaf, unsliced
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons pickled jalapeno pepper juice
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cup diced picked jalapeno pepper
3 tablespoons bacon bits
1 cup monterey jack cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Using a sharp bread knife, cut the bread into about 1 inch slices from side to side going into both directions, repeating until entire loaf is cut. Do not cut through the bottom crust. It should look something like an onion mum.
  • Mix together cream cheese, jalapeno pepper juice and garlic powder. Spread cream cheese mixture inbetween cuts. Sprinkle diced jalapeno peppers and bacon bits on bread, making sure to lodge most inbetween cuts. Top bread with cheese, again, stuffing in between cuts.
  • Wrap in foil the entire loaf and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes; unwraping foil packet enough to expose the bread. Bake for an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.

The bread was a bit dry. I think I should have added more butter or milk to the dough.

I had some trouble getting the bread to rise properly. I think I might have used too much yeast.

This bread was a bit too spicy for me, but my husband loved it. He said it was the perfect amount of heat.

I'm not a big fan of spicy food, but this bread was still really good. The cheese and bread were perfect together.
