MAZZA SAVADA (Portuguese Sweet Bread) image

This is served especially around Easter time, but it's wonderful any day! Thick slices toasted or plain, tempting with butter, but delicious as is. Round and high, shiny and golden brown outside, and a beautiful rich yellow inside. This came from the 1954 cookbook,Vineyard Fare, first edition, and later it appeared in the 1963...

Not a fan of the anise flavor. Otherwise, it's a good recipe.

This recipe is a fail. The bread was dry and tasteless.

I found the instructions a bit confusing, but the end result was worth the effort.
