Mother's Pecan Squares image

Like a slice of pecan pie in bar form, delicious.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup butter, softened
2 cups dark brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 pinch salt
2 cups sifted cake flour
1 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease one 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • Cream the butter and 1 cup of the dark brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Mix in 1 beaten egg then add the flour and until well combined. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Cover the batter with the remaining well-beaten egg. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of the dark brown sugar over the surface then sprinkle with the chopped pecans and top with the remaining 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 35 minutes. Let cool for 30 minutes then cut into squares.

These pecan squares were a disaster. The dough was too sticky and the pecans all fell off. I ended up throwing the whole thing away.

I've made these pecan squares several times and they always turn out great. They're easy to make and so delicious. I love the combination of the sweet and crunchy pecans with the chewy cookie base.

These pecan squares are amazing! I made them for a party and they were a huge hit. The only change I made was to use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet chocolate chips. They turned out so rich and decadent. I will definitely be making these a
