My Mom's Spaghetti Sauce image

My Mom and Grandmother came up with this recipe when my Mom was in 7th grade! About 50 years ago! My Mom has tweaked recipe over time and this is end result. Growing up she made this on occasion for us, and I have never had better! I just learned how to make it this year, and it was so much fun! Ground turkey added to recipe...

Time 2h15m

Number Of Ingredients 18

3 lb ground beef
2 lb ground turkey
1 large yellow onion-chopped
28 oz tomato puree
2-26 oz garlic and herb pasta sauce
6-29 oz tomato sauce
1 c brown sugar
3/4 c granulated sugar
1/2 c apple cider vinegar
3 Tbsp garlic powder
4 Tbsp chili powder
1/4 c worcestershire sauce
3 bay leaves
1 Tbsp basil
2 tsp minced garlic
2 Tbsp minced onion
1-2 Tbsp salsa brava hot sauce (depending how spicy you like)
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. This recipe is very large so you will need large roaster pan (like for a turkey) this works best. Prep time may vary, I find it easier to measure my spices before cooking meat. Also cutting onion before cooking meat helps too.
  • 2. Set stove to medium. Cook meat in roaster till 90% cooked.
  • 3. Add chopped onion
  • 4. Add puree and sauces and mix well
  • 5. Add all spices, season to taste and mix well. Cook time is from when meat is added to roaster. The longer it is in roaster the more the spices will soak in.

This sauce was a disappointment. I was expecting it to be flavorful and rich, but it was actually quite bland. I wouldn't recommend this recipe to anyone.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but this sauce turned out really bad. It was watery, bland, and had no flavor. I followed the recipe exactly, so I'm not sure what went wrong.

This sauce is okay. It's not bad, but it's not great either. The flavor is a bit bland, and it's not very thick. I wouldn't recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a flavorful or thick spaghetti sauce.

This sauce is very good. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's definitely up there. The flavor is rich and complex, and it's not too heavy. I would recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a good spaghetti sauce.

I'm not a huge fan of spaghetti sauce, but this one is really good! It's not too heavy or acidic, and it has a great balance of flavors. I would definitely recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a delicious and easy spaghetti sauce.

This sauce is amazing! I've made it several times now and it always turns out perfectly. It's so flavorful and versatile. I've used it on spaghetti, ravioli, and even pizza. It's always a crowd-pleaser.

I made this sauce last night and it was a hit with my family! Everyone loved the flavor, and it was so easy to make. I will definitely be adding this to my regular rotation of recipes.

This is the best spaghetti sauce I've ever had! I've tried many different recipes over the years, but this one is by far my favorite. The sauce is so flavorful and rich, and it has the perfect amount of spice. I will definitely be making this again a
