Norwegian Pfeffernerse image

A traditional Norwegian Christmas recipe.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 pound unsalted butter
3 cups white sugar
3 teaspoons bakers' ammonia
1 cup finely chopped almonds
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Stir in the powdered ammonia and chopped almonds. Knead in the flour. Roll dough into 1 inch balls and freeze for 1 hour.
  • preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Take cookies out of the freezer and bake for 30 minutes.
