Orange Dream Whip Pie image

Yum with a capital Y! This pie reminds me of the orange/vanilla ice cream treat I loved as a kid. The Dream Whip makes the pie airy and creamy. Super simple, this is a perfect dessert when you're looking for something light and fruity.

Time 4h30m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 can(s) mandarin oranges; 8.5 oz.
1 pkg orange gelatin; 3 oz.
1 pkg vanilla instant pudding; 3.4 oz.
2 c milk
2 pkg Dream Whip
1 tsp vanilla
1 graham cracker pie crust

Steps:

  • 1. Drain juice from oranges. You will need 3/4 cup of liquid; add enough water to measure that. Bring liquid to a boil and stir in gelatin until dissolved. Set aside to cool.
  • 2. Mix 2 envelopes of Dream Whip with 1 cup of the milk and beat for 6 minutes or until stiff peaks hold.
  • 3. Be sure that the gelatin is cool and beat into Dream Whip mixture.
  • 4. Add remaining cup of milk to the pudding and beat for 2 minutes. Then fold into the Dream Whip mixture.
  • 5. Pour into graham cracker crust and let it chill for 4 hours or overnight.

The filling on this pie was a bit runny. I think I might have used too much milk.

The crust on this pie was a bit soggy. I think I might have overbaked it.

This pie is a bit too sweet for my taste. I would recommend using less sugar in the filling.

I've made this pie with both a graham cracker crust and a pastry crust. Both are delicious, but I prefer the graham cracker crust.

This pie is a great make-ahead dessert. I usually make it the day before I need it, so it has time to chill and set.

This pie is a great way to use up leftover orange juice. I always have a few oranges on hand, so it's nice to have a recipe that I can use them in.
